The amount of 5-meo you vape is very small so you should be able to clear it easily in one hit with a standard vaporizer like a Vapor Genie. It's not like trying to vape 60mg of dmt where you might need 3 or 4 hits.


I'm not too sure about the technology of a bong but if it's like my water pipe you're in danger of burning the product if it comes into contact with a flame. Even sandwich method is likely to lose you a fair amount. It actually need a vaporizing mechanism where flame and product are separated but the heat passes through the 5-meo at the right temperature.

Where in the museum do they state this? I spoke to a Pre-Columbian Anthro expert, and they said that there's no clear evidence for the use of Incilius alvarius, only Bufo marinus.

Hi deejtrex and welcome to 5-hive!


I've certainly never worked with a practitioner but I have worked with 5-meo a lot in conjunction with meditation and various practices. It's very easy to be in awe of 5-meo but it's so important to realize it's no free ticket to enlightenment or to healing trauma. It's a tool and an extremely powerful one at that but I think if a lot of people were honest they say that they were shocked by how, following the experience, they were pretty much chucked back into their normal reality and little had immediately changed apart from the awe they felt for something they couldn't clearly remember. I would only say that it needs to be part of something (I hesitate to say "some path") where the work is being done on a daily basis to deal with locked in trauma or to truly understand "what is" and is used to make those leaps where all logic comes to an end and only the freefall into the abyss will take us to the next stage.

Very nicely written! Only parts I'd question are:

There is no current evidence confirming that the Bufotoxin of the Sonoran Desert Toad has been used within any living shamanic traditions, although there is much circumstantial evidence of its ancient use.

This seems to be the standard line but just from a visit to the Anthropological Museum in Mexico City (Mexicas Civilization Section) I'd say the evidence is overwhelming that the pre-hispanic cultures were using toad medicine and the museum itself positively states that this was the case.

In what sense orally active? I would say entirely orally inactive.

I have a question for you, I was wondering if you have any experience of knowledge about doing Ayahuasca within the same week or two of doing toad medicine? As I was in Peru recently and was shocked to find so many retreats offering a large number of powerful sacred medicines in a short amount of time.

From a medical point of view (alone), using any form of 5-meo-dmt shortly after taking ayahuasca which contains B. Caapi, an MAO inhibitor, is extremely dangerous. You've got to know there is no chance of there being any MAOI in the bloodstream before taking the toad medicine.


I know Crossroads Clinic, Tijuana, was using 5-meo to finish off their ibogaine treatments for addition with great success but my confidence in a lot of these centers in Peru and thereabouts in at an all time low (following a long period of investigation) and I doubt that many of them have a well thought out schedule.

Thanks for all the useful information. Can I just check in with you on what you say about redosing. It's something I've generally avoided as I've not really known how long the existing 5-meo stays active in the body. For me at least the main effect wears off after maybe 15 minutes but the secondary effect generally lasts closer to 45 minutes


So from what you say, if I dose on 12 mg and find that this amount is sub-release, it would be ok to wait 20 minutes from dosing and then take, say, 10 mg (that being 2/3 of 15 mg) to go for the full release dose. Did I understand right?


I might also add that I generally use plugging as the most exact method of dosing and generally the doses have to be smaller using this method and the onset is more like 5 or 6 minutes rather than 20 seconds but I don't want to confuse the question too much with this additional factor.

Just a quick question hopefully respectfully posed but trying to understand where you're coming from.


Why have you formed an organization to present this? I know there is a natural human need to form groups, societies, religions with a set creed and a sense of belonging but this process is so individual and those that partake have such a variety of motives, I'm not sure what you hope to achieve or how it will work.


Having said that, I do feel we are at a point in history where humanity as a whole leads such a meaningless existence whilst continuing towards the rapid destruction of the planet they inhabit that some new way of life urgently needs to appear and just possibly entheogens will have a part to play in that.

I experienced my first two Bufo sessions through Dr Gerry but since that time I've heard some less than savoury things about his conduct from multiple sources. I think the front he puts out may be different to the person he is. Beware claims made about the Bufo Alvarius Foundation, it seems there is not much evidence money is going into such a venture, unfortunately.

If you want to read more, the pinned post in the facebook group "BEWARE of the Bufo Gangsters" may be of interest.

Unfortunately this is my belief too. He once claimed to have set up (or was in the process of setting up) a large reserve in Sonora Mexico and the southern US for the toads. When I told him I would be happy to work with him (for free) on such a project he quickly backtracked. I tried to investigate if such a project was under way and found nothing - I live in Mexico, speak Spanish and am pretty aware of anything like that going on. I'm sure he's helping a lot of people experience 5-meo for the first time but everything I read and hear rings my intuition alarm bells.

I've always used a Glass Vapor Genie with a blowtorch style lighter. This seems to be the way to avoid wasting/burning any of the product.

Just a couple of thoughts here regarding body temperature whilst taking 5-meo-dmt. Much of this I feel applies also to dmt but perhaps it's even more pertinent to 5 as this seems to have a greater body load and also renders the taker less capable of moving or changing her/his environment after administration.

I tend to reduce the clothing I'm wearing to an absolute minimum immediately before administration. So this might be briefs only in a room that is at 21 degrees C (70 degrees F). I'm also aware that the anxiety that I usually feel before consuming the substance in any case tends to make me feel overheated. I've noticed that I can feel uncomfortably hot when entering the experience both with dmt and 5-meo and that this discomfort can make for an unpleasant ride sometimes so anything that reduces this is ideal. I'll often exit the experience with perspiration on my forehead even though in general I'm the type of person who sweats very little.

However immediately following the experience, body temperature drops rapidly so it's important to have some easily donnable clothing right next to you that you can slip on. I've even gone so far as to have an electric blanket that I can lie back on - which in that situation feels totally divine by the way. If you're taking 5 outside, especially at low temperatures, it's really important to have something warm to wrap yourself up in afterwards!

To give credit where it's due, Martin's run his excellent Entheogenic Evolution podcast for a long time now and has had many incredible talks and interviews with people associated with 5-meo. These have generally been mature and well thought out and he certainly hasn't shown any of the arrogance that rubbed people up the wrong way so much in former times. Unfortunately Martin has quite a heavy sort of aura about him - whether that is due to self-importance or what I don't know - and is not an immediately likable character in the same way that Rak Razam is instantly likable and good fun. As it so happens, I don't in any way agree with Rak's dualist, shamanistic approach whereas Martin has arrived at a purely non dual understanding of how 5-meo works.

Out of interest, Martin doesn't do his one-to-one sessions anymore - he abandoned them quite a few months ago. He used to take 5-meo at the same time as the person and said that this allowed him to pinpoint where they were constricting their energy. I never saw any of these sessions or talked to anyone who had them and I wouldn't like to comment whether this is a valid method of working with 5-meo.

You mention 5mg as a start off dosage, HV. Is that what you'd suggest that most people try for their first attempt with IM? I've seen much larger doses suggested in other parts of the forum that have worried me slightly.
