I spoke with Dennis McKenna about this possibility and he also seemed to think Phalaris grass would perhaps be the best option. The next question would be a matter of testing, which it seems ForeverChanging could help with doing a formal assessment of some of these grasses. Also I think it would be worth seeing what other compounds are present in the grass and if any produce negative side effects (gramine for example).

Yes, I think this is definitely the way forward as we identify other plants. I wonder about Anadenanthera colubrina?
Would you be able to post some of your test results in the Science section?

This is a topic of much debate among the plant medicine people in general. There is a lot of misinformation going around about what compounds are in what plant, so hopefully that can get cleared up now. Maybe we can start putting together a fact sheet of all known natural sources of 5-MeO-DMT? That would be another great resource for future study and investigation. And that fact sheet would be different from the Nexus one in the sense that it would only contain plants that contained at least .25% 5-MeO-DMT. Anything less than that is probably too small to be a viable source for extraction. Am I right in saying this?

Really great going forward to consider what might be viable plant sources of this molecule. My suspicion is that there are no plant sources (currently known) that will easily yield good amounts of 5-MeO-DMT in the way that Mimosa Hostilis has high yields of nnDMT. Virola resin has been cited as a potential source, but I have not read any accounts of successful extractions from the resin. And trust me, I have SCOURED the DMT Nexus for that info! The information has been discouraging at best.

That being said, maybe here on the 5 Hive there will be some aspiring entheobotanists that will work with various plants to isolate this molecule and devise a tek for the community at large.

I still think that lab synthesis will be the most viable source for this molecule. The synthesis is not terribly difficult (correct me if I'm wrong chemists).

Although this is obvious, I will reiterate that people should not be disturbing these animals.

As for the seeds, they do need proper preparation and administration. They have to be toasted, outer shell removed, mixed with a base like lime or baking soda, water added to form a paste, then dried and finely ground. Then it should be blown up the nose (requires another person) at a dose of around 400mg, 200 per nostril.

My heart felt gratitude to you for starting this forum - there's a real need for it. The DMT Nexus is a fantastic place full of useful information and great conversations but of course 5-meo has only been a small sideline of the Nexus and I have at times felt something of an antipathy between phychonauts experimenting with dmt and those experimenting with 5-meo.

I discovered 5-meo about 18 months ago and have done a fair bit of work with it. I think it maybe not only has the potential to enlighten an individual but possibly the whole planet in due course. For my own purposes I only experiment with these medicines to gain a deeper understanding of non-dualism, truth, our true nature, that which is (given up trying to put words to that no thing  ).

I really look forward to seeing what comes out of this forum and happy to share my own thoughts and experiences.

Now to find my Nexus avatar
