Welcome Gottmolekül,
The need to find sustainable sources for this medicine and ease the ecological pressure on the toads is a very important issue (the Ethics and Ecology section here is germinating some great dialogue around this already).
cheers,

Welcome Celestiowl,
I look forward to your offerings in this space. The melding of Qi-Gong with 5-MeO is of particularly interest as I have found the channelling of energy with these medicines is especially congruent with such a practice and something I wish to learn more about.
Gracias,

Gracias for this sharing LogosOne, for your presence here, for the unique bandwidth of consciousness that you receive, for the articulations transmitted through it and for the soul-drop that you are  :)

The Mudra phenomenon is a powerful and persistent one for me and would love to see some discussion emerge around it to see how others interpret or utilise it :)

Also Dutaillyea drupacea  or Dutaillyea oreophila (From New Caledonia) may have promise;

"5-MeO-DMT was reported to be the sole alkaloid in the leaves at 0.04% but it was absent from the trunk-bark" 1981 Baudouin et al from https://erowid.org/library/books_online/ayahuasca_apa/aya_sec3_part2_admixture_other.shtml  and "One study (Pachter et al. 1959 reports 0.04% 5meo in Dutaillyea drupacea" from Overlooked DMT & 5-MeO-DMT containing plants. Hi WorthD,

Would love to hear your thoughts on the various benefits, advantages or otherwise of group work in comparison to solo journeys,

Gracias,

Hi ForeverChanging,

QuoteI have some 5-MeO-DMT at home (synthetic) but havent mustered up the courage (or desire) to smoke it yet. Maybe sometime later this year.

When I first procured the n-n molecule, I did much research on set and setting and I found this article served me very well in making sure it was a safe and rewarding experience; http://psychedelicfrontier.com/how-prepare-spiritual-dmt-ceremony/

Ethics and Ecology / Re: Amphibians on Earth

Thanks Shy Violet,

This is the prefect post for seeding the Ethics and Ecology section

It also reminded me of a discussion recently about Bufo Alvarius not 'needing' to produce 5-MeO because of the bio-availability of other bufotoxins it has to potentially deter predators and that it produces 5-MeO as a result of living underground for 9 months of the year and the relationship between 5-MeO and light.

This was idea was supported via way of testaments to darkness retreats invoking 5-MeO like states and the (somewhat speculative?) cascade relationship between melanin, melatonin, tryptophan, serotonin, pinoline and 5-MeO-DMT in the human brain.

Well the crux of idea was; that the Australian Cane Toad (Bufo Marinus) being so closely related to Bufo Alvarius could, if environmentally necessitated to hibernate underground... also begin to produce 5-MeO-DMT.

An exciting if not wild idea :)

thoughts most welcome :)

Dakic V, Nascimento JM, Sartore RC, de Moraes Maciel R, de Araujo DB, Ribeiro S, Martins-de-Souza D, Rehen SK, 2017, This article is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed, doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/108159 http://biorxiv.org/content/early/2017/02/13/108159

Abstract

Dimethyltryptamines are hallucinogenic serotonin-like molecules present in traditional Amerindian medicine (e.g. Ayahuasca, Virola) recently associated with cognitive gains, antidepressant effects and changes in brain areas related to attention, self-referential thought, and internal mentation. Historical and technical restrictions impaired understanding how such substances impact human brain metabolism. Here we used shotgun mass spectrometry to explore proteomic differences induced by dimethyltryptamine (5-methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine, 5-MeO-DMT) on human cerebral organoids. Out of the 6,728 identified proteins, 934 were found differentially expressed in 5-MeO-DMT-treated cerebral organoids. In silico systems biology analyses support 5-MeO-DMT's anti-inflammatory effects and reveal a modulation of proteins associated with the formation of dendritic spines, including proteins involved in cellular protrusion formation, microtubule dynamics and cytoskeletal reorganization. Proteins involved in long-term potentiation were modulated in a complex manner, with significant increases in the levels of NMDAR, CaMKII and CREB, but a reduction of PKA and PKC levels. These results offer possible mechanistic insights into the neuropsychological changes caused by the ingestion of substances rich in dimethyltryptamines

Thanks Rising Spirit,

Changa is a medicine I have great affinity with and prefer a blend of 1 part Caapi to 2 parts n-n which allows for a deep breakthrough after one lungful yet has  the soft rich texture and aubible voice of the vine with a slower unfolding than straight n-n. If you are smoking n-n-dmt infused onto only Blue Lotus then the experience is going to be much more akin to smoking crystal n-n, hence the rising tonal ringing sound. This sound does not appear present on 5-MeO at all for me (others may differ but I have not heard of this association in quite the same way).

I would further suggest that the experience of witnessing 'Observer and observed coalesce into a wholly singular phenomenon' with n-n reflects a 'clear relationship' such as an openness and receptivity to the medicine on your part ...and perhaps also a very significant dose :)

As often as it is said, I truly feel that these medicines do 'find us when the time is right' and reflecting on my encounters with different plants and molecules over the last 30 years, a deep synchronicity seems to shine through that reveals the 'agency' of these plant spirits as mediators of mind, emissaries for Gaia and interfaces for the human-god matrix.

Thanks Bancopuma,

Some great observations here. I particularly feel the slowly measured approach is really valuable as the idiosyncratic reactions are important to consider.
There is a prevailing discourse around 5-MeO that anything short of 'full dissolution' is not the full experience, which disregards the many incredible insights and healing that this medicine offers. This gradual, incremental approach seems to be manifesting as a theme in my life at the moment and it is an interesting lesson. Much like working with Changa (for which I prefer a strong blend of n-n-dmt to Caapi vine), I have noticed that easing people into it gently helps greatly in adjusting to the often abrupt transition between worlds. I have been observing a close friend begin to take smaller doses of 5-MeO, such as 7mg scoop to begin with, rather than the usual jumping straight in to 15 or 20mg and this has been yielding very rewarding experiences as the deeper journeys were proving to be quite challenging for him.

Focusing on the breath - allowing the cognisant mind to depart and dissolve - surrendering - and bearing witness to the unfolding are about the best, or about the only real advice, one can offer :)

In regards to 'staying in the light as long a possible', I have found that after one returns from the Sahmadi state- that avoiding talking for as long as possible is a good practice. While for many, especially for the first few times, the desire to exclaim 'WOW', 'Oh My God' or 'What the Actual F**K' is often irresistible, with practice this 'not giving way to astonishment' as McKenna put it, has great merit. Staying in the experience by silently lying still or silently sitting in a meditative position significantly increase ones ability to integrate the experience, as the aspects of 'the self' return, the energetic body re-aligns with the ego and spirit becomes again held within physicality- this is where we begin to process, reflect and integrate divine consciousness with the everyday and bring the sacred into the profane.

Welcome Bancopuma,

The DMT Nexus has over the years been such an incredibly useful and rewarding resource and to manifest a forum of equal measure around 5-MeO feels like a great honour. Looking forward to your future contributions here and as we co-create entheogenic community around such a powerful medicine.

cheers,
